[ Sitting in the barracks, her book open on her lap, Rinwell takes a deep breath and thinks directly at the young woman she's become somewhat friendly with in their time at the Outpost.
Hopefully this new magic won't startle her too badly. But Rinwell is certain she needs to bring this to her attention. ]
[ It IS still working! After Julie had stopped responding, Rinwell hadn't been sure.. She beams at the pages, before sneaking a look over in Alice's general direction, absently nodding before more text appears where Alice can see it. ]
I can!
This seems to be some sort of magic that started happening today. It looks like only us outlanders can see these messages too, since none of the Caden soldiers here have reacted to them.
[Oh! That's actually quite handy. Alice makes note that this new power can reach well beyond national borders.]
I know Halloween and America. Halloween is a fall festival where people make costumes to wear. And the United States of America is a country in my world.
[The idea that someone else from Earth would be here isn't something she's considered. There's a strange bit of comfort in that.]
Huh! So that's why her invite mentioned costumes. Is there a reason for "scares"?
Ohhhh, like Calaglia, or Cyslodia! I get it. Though it sounds like your world is very different from Dahna. I wonder if-
[ Well. She doesn't need to finish that thought, and the ink squiggle seems to fade off the page. (Maybe she can ask Dohalim if he knew of any records of such things in past Dahnan culture...when she gets home. Whenever that may be.) ]
I don't know. She also asked if I was in a dungeon??
And then said she had to talk to someone, and wouldn't reply any more after I said there wasn't one. Aside from the brig. But I've yet to see them use it for anyone here.

Think 'yes', if you can!
less sparkle, but still text!

[A pause, just long enough for her to pull herself back together.]
Yes. Can you see mine?

That's interesting! Do we have to be close to be able to send messages like this?
no subject
No.
I was speaking with someone very far away. Who I never met before. But she's like us! She was brought here too!
But by Thorne.
[ There's a pause as Rinwell sorts her thoughts. ]
She was projecting a party invitation, for something called "Halloween". Her world is called America?
[...close enough]She seemed to get really distressed when I said I wasn't in prison, though.
